How To Make Wealth From Health - April 18, 2010 - Segment Five

2Minutes&MoreHow To Make Wealth From Health – Caller Josh Spencer, a top independent BeachBody fitness coach, shares how he helps motivate and encourage people through workout programs like P90X, Insanity, and Slim In 6. Originally a baseball player in college, Josh now coaches individuals through grueling workouts, in addition to receiving credit for sales his clients purchase through BeachBody. Josh got started as a network marketing company, which was very cheap in terms of start-up costs: an initial fee of $39.95 to get started, and then a monthly fee of $14.95 afterwards. Currently, Josh coaches about 3400 people and says his main way of getting customers is through social media sites such as YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook, where he receives about 40-50 new friend requests a day. With infomercials for workout programs like P90X constantly running, people will contact Josh that they’re interested in a particular program, he directs them to his website, and if they order any products off his website, he gets credited for the purchases. For more information on Josh’s services, visit his website www.iwanttogetripped.com.

How To Make Wealth From Health - April 18, 2010 - Segment Four

2Minutes&MoreHow To Make Wealth From Health – Caller Lewis Howes, Founder of the Sports Executives Association, talks about his transition from being a professional football player to excelling in the business arena of health and fitness. After suffering a devastating injury a few years ago, Lewis had surgery and was confined to his bed for 6 months. While recuperating, Lewis spent 6-8 hours a day learning about online marketing, social media—specifically LinkedIn—and built a website, as well as a network to share resources through that website. There are over 25,000 people in his Sports Industry Network, and he’s also grown his online and offline networks in various niches to over 80,000 people. Among those groups includes the largest fitness and wellness group on LinkedIn called “Fitness and Health Professionals,” in addition to lots of different groups for business owners, entrepreneurs, and people looking for jobs. Lewis explains that the way he goes about monetizing his efforts is by adding value first, such as throwing a lot of big networking events and conferences around the world, getting a commission from the venues where he hosts the events, creating a wide range of informational products available online—like webinars—and doing a lot of speaking engagements and consulting. “LinkedIn is the most powerful social networking site on the planet, hands down, if you’re a business owner,” Lewis contends, noting that the site has 65 million business professionals listed online and an average household income of $109,000 per user, higher than any other social networking site, New York Times or Forbes online readers. For more information on Lewis’ services, visit www.lewishowes.com, www.sportsexec.net, or contact him on any social networking website.

How To Make Wealth From Health - CEO Interviews - Ron Fugate, CEO of Emergen-C, Lenny Krayzelburg, 4-Time Olympic Gold Medalist - April 18, 2010 - Segment Three

2Minutes&MoreHow To Make Wealth From Health – Caller Lenny Krayzelburg, 4-time Olympic Gold Medalist swimmer, shares his experiences with running a “learn to swim” academy called the Lenny Krayzelburg Swim Academy. Their demographic is kids ages 1-9 and the primary focus of the program is water safety.  Lenny promotes to parents that learning how to swim is more than just a three month summer activity; not only should kids be taught year round to build their confidence, but swimming is also a weekly activity that’s good for improving their health. Currently, they have a very large year-round program, including 1,300 kids at their Westside JCC location and 300 more at their West Hills JCC location. Visit their website at www.lennykswim.com for all the information about their locations, or call them at 323-525-0323.

Interview with Ron Fugate, CEO of Emergen-C

Betsey and Renee speak with Ron about the significant expansion Emergen-C has enjoyed over the years. In 2000, they sold 60 million vitamin C drink mix packets; in the last 12 months alone, they’ve sold 500 million packets. Ron came to the company in October 2005, initially drawn by the heritage of the brand, and wanted to be a part of growing the company into a more broad distribution operation. According to Ron, among the biggest reasons for their recent expansion is their growth in retail distribution, putting them into more places for consumers to find the brand; a lot of consumer market research to understand who the passionate current users of the brand are and then working to find more of those people via advertising and promotion; distributing about 10 million samples a year to drive awareness of the brand; and substantial changes to their social media work and website to push the brand identity to a place it had not been before.

Ron also mentions another major area that has contributed to their recent success is their involvement with cause-marketing opportunities, another example of “Doing Well By Doing Good.” The company was one of the first to step up and support a group called Operation Gratitude, who send care packages to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. At this point, they’ve given 1.2 million drink mix packets in addition to donating money to the cause. Additionally, they have Emergen-C Pink, with 20 cents per box going to benefit Keep Abreast, a breast cancer awareness group that focuses primarily on younger women, who are among the core users of the brand; and since you can’t make Emergen-C without water, they also have Emergen-C Blue, with proceeds going towards working with the Surf Rider Foundation on clean water causes.

Ron explains the biggest difference between working for an over-the-counter (OTC) product versus a natural supplement is OTCs as a business category tend to be low-growth and the companies in the market are just trading market share as they fight each other on television ad spending. Supplements, conversely, are a rapidly growing business, marked by the discovery of new ingredients and new science. The key opportunity for improvement for Emergen-C, has been making it taste great. They have 10 different flavors and overall about 25 different versions of the product, including a new product coming out soon called Vitamin Z + Calcium, with 1,000 IUs (international units) of vitamin Z and 500 mg of calcium in a very tasty mixed berry flavor. The key for Emergen-C, Ron maintains, is to make sure the product tastes great, with a scoop of good science behind the great taste.

How To Make Wealth From Health - April 18, 2010 - Segment Two

2Minutes&MoreHow To Make Wealth From Health – Caller Ryan Bishel, Managing Director of Champions’ Quest, a varsity and college prep athlete academy dedicated to student athletes, explains the mission behind Champions’ Quest training programs. They focus on young athletes ages 8-18, helping those athletes fulfill their dreams of playing collegiately, and perhaps even professionally. They train athletes in all areas, from mainstream sports like football and baseball, to the less traditional like figure skating, motocross riding, cheerleading, and archery. Much like traditional schools have courses on the fundamentals like English, science, and math, Champions’ Quest has courses in speed, strength, and agility. Each area is broken down to a school-like function: students take notes on subjects and they are tested every quarter with a performance analysis. Currently, Ryan says, all of the training is done in-house at their Los Alamitos facility, but they are just starting to do some on-site work. The company has done some research, and found over 2,000 different areas in the USA that they could franchise. They’ve also enjoyed some major growth recently because athletes are using their system to get into college via scholarships. As of now, over 50 athletes with college playing experience have gotten scholarships, including 10 in their graduating class this year. Champions’ Quest provides year-round courses, but they will also have summer courses available this year. For more information, visit their website at www.championsquest.com.

How To Make Wealth From Health - April 18, 2010 - Segment One

2Minutes&MoreHow To Make Wealth From Health – Caller Sue Parks, CEO of WalkStyles, discusses the various ways her company improves the overall corporate wellness of its clients. Corporate wellness encompasses everything from getting employees to feel better about themselves and their work, increasing their energy levels, and improving their ability to solve complex problems. Currently, WalkStyles works with several hundred corporations of different sizes, who use their online tools—in addition to the book Sue wrote on wellness called I Count: 10 Simple Steps To A Healthy Life—to help their employees get more active. A primary focus of WalkStyles is getting participants to make 10,000 steps a day, or 5 miles, and according to Sue, studies have repeatedly demonstrated that getting 10,000 steps in a day can have a big impact in your overall fitness and well being. Walking meetings are terrific, and nothing is better for a brainstorming session than sending a group out for a 15 minute walk while discussing ideas. As Sue explains, people come back more energized, with more creative ideas. WalkStyles also offers weight management tools, organizational and life balance tools, as well as a step meter they developed called the Dash Track, which uploads information to their website and allows people to easily manage their progress.

Wellness is a huge industry with many different facets, so it’s important to do your research, understand what exactly is out there, while also understanding how you can be different, such as in customer service, providing online tools, or unique products you’ll develop. Sue notes that what they really love to do is help business owners change the culture of their businesses, really encouraging them to develop a sense of team, and nothing accomplishes that like uniting together to help and support each other in wellness. Right now, WalkStyles has bundled a lot of webinars and consulting services into a package that actually has a value of $300 per employee, but is currently available for $24.95. For more information, visit their website www.walkstyles.com.
