A Tribute To Mothers - May 9, 2010 - Segment Three
Callers Gloria Allred and her daughter, Lisa Bloom, speak about the influence and impact on Lisa of Gloria being a working mother and an attorney. Gloria, in the 35th year of her law firm (Allred, Maroko, and Goldberg) says she’s always worked outside the home, but hopes that she provided the love and attention that Lisa deserved, as well as the encouragement to be the very best she can be. Gloria’s philosophy has always been to give a voice to the voiceless, power to the powerless, hope to the hopeless, and to help empower women and inspire them to empower and inspire others to win change. Lisa says she learned from her mother early on that it’s important to take a principled stand, and that her mother has absolutely been the #1 inspiration for everything she’s done in her life.
Initially, Lisa graduated from law school in the 1980s, and worked in New York for the first 5 years doing business litigation and corporate law. One day, she realized “Why am I not working with mom? She does exactly the kind of law I want to practice. What is wrong with me?” Lisa moved back out to Los Angeles and ended up working with her mom at her firm for 9 years back in the 1990s. Recently, Lisa started her own firm called The Bloom Firm, but for 8 years before that, she was hosting a show on Court TV, and her contract prohibited her from practicing law. Additionally, Lisa is a regular legal analyst for CNN and CBS News, appearing frequently on programs like Anderson Cooper 360º and The Early Show, respectively.
So many people called Lisa over the last few years because they saw her on television and were seeking justice but didn’t know where to turn. Lisa didn’t want to continue to say no to all those people, which led to the birth of The Bloom Firm. She is licensed to practice law in California and New York, but if people call her from outside those areas, she can often help them find appropriate representation because she knows attorneys all over the country from her television work.
