How To Make Wealth From Health - April 18, 2010 - Segment Four

2Minutes&MoreHow To Make Wealth From Health – Caller Lewis Howes, Founder of the Sports Executives Association, talks about his transition from being a professional football player to excelling in the business arena of health and fitness. After suffering a devastating injury a few years ago, Lewis had surgery and was confined to his bed for 6 months. While recuperating, Lewis spent 6-8 hours a day learning about online marketing, social media—specifically LinkedIn—and built a website, as well as a network to share resources through that website. There are over 25,000 people in his Sports Industry Network, and he’s also grown his online and offline networks in various niches to over 80,000 people. Among those groups includes the largest fitness and wellness group on LinkedIn called “Fitness and Health Professionals,” in addition to lots of different groups for business owners, entrepreneurs, and people looking for jobs. Lewis explains that the way he goes about monetizing his efforts is by adding value first, such as throwing a lot of big networking events and conferences around the world, getting a commission from the venues where he hosts the events, creating a wide range of informational products available online—like webinars—and doing a lot of speaking engagements and consulting. “LinkedIn is the most powerful social networking site on the planet, hands down, if you’re a business owner,” Lewis contends, noting that the site has 65 million business professionals listed online and an average household income of $109,000 per user, higher than any other social networking site, New York Times or Forbes online readers.
